Roll on the Summer Holidays

Life is sweet right now...the sun is still shining, my sweet peas are in bloom and the boys finish school for the summer this Friday.
We 're busy planning our virgin voyage in the caravan, and are thinking of heading to the North West of Scotland. Ullapool direction I think, where the beaches are beautiful, wild and remote. Any campsite recommendations?

  1. I just went there during Spring Bank holiday. The campsite at Ullapool is pretty good, but if you're prepared to go a bit further north, you really couldn't find a more beautiful place than Achmelvich. You can't book, so just have to chance there being room, but it's a fairly big site. The campsite is open to the sea, the beach is 30 seconds away. The only downside this year is that there were ticks on the site.
Failing that, there's another great beach with campsite at Clachtoll.

See my pictures of Achmelvich here http://yarnroundhook.blogspot.com/2010/06/scotland.html

  2. p.s amenities are fairly good at Achmelvich (Shore Caravan Site) - electricity hook-ups, laundry, showers, hot water, small shop, fish and chip shop....and the pie shop in Lochinver is something else!! Can you tell I love it there?!!

  3. Thank you Victoria - sounds like a great recommendation - must have been a fair drive up from your neck of the woods?
