The 'Granny Bag'

I managed to squeeze a tiny trip to the charity shop last week and was handsomely rewarded for my efforts - a vintage 100% leather bag.  I have been struggling to find a portable method of transporting my WIP crochet around whilst away on holiday or in the caravan, and I knew immediately I had found my perfect crochet bag.

The inside has a couple of compartments and a zipped section (perfect for storing hooks) and its rigid enough that my work doesn't get lost inside, and you won't believe the price I paid....£2.50!!!

Unfortunately my six year old thought it looked like a 'Granny's' bag - well, obviously a Granny with a lot of style!

Exciting New Ventures

Sorry, the imagine is not great quality but you get the idea - a while ago I approached the owner of our local craft shop with the proposal to try out some crochet lessons, so here we are, a brand new venture for me.....No idea if there will be a take up or not, but I am really excited about spreading my crochet obsession!!

Travelling Blue Bear

After years of suffering from travel sickness, it was something of a revelation this last holiday to discover I could pass the time during long car journeys by crocheting, with no side effects.  Most of this bear was made on the journey between Edinburgh and Newcastle. I made it as a present for a friend who has recently had a baby boy.  I was a bit disappointed with it to begin with, the bottom half is a bit out of proportion, and I thought the face wasn't quite right, but after a week of having him sitting on my dressing table, I have grown rather fond of him...

Twit Twoo...

Whilst looking around all the gorgeous shops in Edinburgh on our recent visit, I noticed a bit of an owl theme going on.  My suspicions seem to have been confirmed at Etsy!
Here are some favourites:-

'Funky little Owl Potholder' by Katys Crochet

Owl Bookend by I Sew Lucky

Owl Plush Softies by EvelynX

Brown Paper Tags by Mommy Holly

I can defiantly feel a crocheted owl coming on! I had a wee look on Ravelry and found a few, but they were mostly patterns you had to buy, so I think I will try my hand at making my own up, can't be too hard to do if you keep the shape simple. Anyone else feeling the owl love?

We're back

Feels like I have been away for weeks and weeks!! We are now officially hardened caravaners!  I'm feeling slightly grubby and unkempt and my feet need a serious soak in the bath, but other than that and the challenging Scottish weather, we've had a brilliant time.  Here's some high lights of the trip:-
First stop Brunchrew Caravan site, near Inverness.  I couldn't believe how incredibly easy 'setting up camp' was compared to camping with a tent!

Ardmair Point campsite, just North of Ullapool - beautiful, and the sun shone briefly for about 10 minutes, and then it was wet, cold and stormy for the rest of our stay....

Achmelvich beach (thank you Victoria for the great tip!) - Beautiful white, deserted beached, unfortunately it was also freezing with high gales!! We headed home for a couple of days and then decided to stay with the sun on the East coast and travelled South...

"Yarnbombing" on the streets of Edinburgh!!

Amigurumi love in the shops of Cockburn Street, Edinburgh

International Athletics at Gateshead stadium - big hit with the boys

After a few days visiting my relatives in Newcastle we finished up our trip in Moffat, visiting my in-laws and some old friends, so quite a tour in the end, and I'm pretty sure this is just the beginning of our adventures....

Holidays are here at last!! Six long weeks of relaxing with no fixed schedule, spending time with my boys - I'm so glad they are here at last. My two little ones are exhausted and badly in need of some down time. Scottish schools finish earlier than English schools, but as we have had no half term, and the children have not had any time off since Easter, it's been a long time coming...

Tomorrow we are heading for the open road, caravan in tow. First stop Inverness and then over to the West coast. I am ignoring the long term weather forecast - (they never get it right anyway) and we are packing for some fun on the beach, along with PLENTY of midge repellent!

A few things making me happy right now.....

For the first year ever I am sort of on top of the weed situation at my allotment, and the first of the strawberries are ripe! yippee!!

The warm weather has meant some nice evening bike rides...

Last night I bottled my Elderflower Champagne. I managed to get 9 bottles from the brew and I was quite excited to see it had some bubbles in - looks a bit cloudy though- does it eventually clear a bit?

My Cornflowers have finally flowered!

A very thoughtful gift of this beautiful merino wool - perfect for caravan crocheting!

Inspired by Orange Cumquats beautiful cloth, I am whipping up a few facecloths for the caravan to scrub those dirty knees!
So that's me signing off for a week or two -see you on my return!!! xx
